Life with Fear

Fear. What is it? Why do we have it? I want to approach this topic from a scientific perspective before I get to my intention. The definition of fear is "an emotion caused by the feeling of danger, pain, or a threat". Fear, like anxiety, is meant to be a defense mechanism for the body. However, sometimes we allow this to take control of our lives.
Fear is only a state of mind. Fear is what you allow it to be. Although our feelings may not be the easiest to control, fear is one of those that sometimes you just have to tell yourself I can do this, and push fear to the back of your mind. What is truly the worst that can happen? We get so anxious meeting new people or going new places. But really, what are we scared of? Having no one to talk to? Embarrassing ourselves? Congratulations, you didn't know anyone there in the first place, and on the off chance that you do meet one of those people again, and they remember that exact event. Well, so be it; you got out of your comfort zone, and if they judge you for that, well, I don't think that's someone you want to be friends with anyway.
Franklin Roosevelt once said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." We should fear nothing but forgetting to live our lives. Is that not our sole purpose in life, to live?
